USA Today ran a very detailed piece looking at the free airfare deals that are popular on a number of Alaska cruises.  As you might expect, you have to be careful to make sure you’re really getting the most value for your money when shopping for cheap Alaskan cruises.

You need to consider a number of options when evaluating a free airfare offer.  First and foremost, you need to find out what the airfare would cost if you paid for it yourself.  When doing your research, it’s important to look at all the various ways you could book your flights, including open-jaw and one-way air fares.

A great strategy is to examine the amount of credit you’d receive if you didn’t want the free airfare.  Focus on that number when comparing the prices of flights you could book on your own.  If your number is less, than make sure to ask for the credit.

Of course, few things in life are free, and free airfare is no exception.  You can be sure that you’re paying for your “free” airfare one way or the other!
